A combined finance-and-legal project can involve firms with different professional and regulatory roles. Business registration, financial-services permission and legal-practice status are not interchangeable concepts. Before appointment, identify the exact service, entity and jurisdiction, then use the relevant verification route with the organisation's responsible professional reviewers.

## Describe the service before checking status

Ask each proposed adviser to explain what it will do and what falls outside its engagement. Financial modelling, a regulated financial activity, legal advice and administrative coordination may require different assessments. Do not assume that a broad finance-and-legal label establishes permission for every service described in a proposal.

Record the contracting entity and the individuals responsible for delivery. Reconcile the proposal, engagement letter and invoice information. If a network or associated firm will perform part of the work, identify that entity and its role.

## Use the relevant official register

The Central Bank of the UAE provides licensing information for the institutions within its remit. The DFSA and ADGM's FSRA maintain their own public registers. Use the regulator relevant to the proposed activity and jurisdiction, and examine the actual entry and scope rather than rely on a logo or a general claim of being regulated.

For legal-practice status or another professional permission, have the responsible reviewer identify the appropriate authority and current verification route. A financial-services entry does not establish legal-practice entitlement, and incorporation in a financial centre is not itself the same as authorisation for every financial activity.

## Review competence and conflicts separately

Ask about experience with the actual matter, the proposed team and any conflict review required before accepting the engagement. Let the relevant professionals assess independence and conflict questions for the case. Avoid treating a signed generic declaration as a substitute for a matter-specific review.

For example, an adviser may have an appropriate status but lack experience with the particular jurisdiction or transaction structure. Registration evidence answers a different question from suitability for the assignment.

## Record the limits of the check

Keep the source, date, entity, activity and unresolved action in the appointment record. Recheck material changes in team, entity or service scope before extending the engagement. Do not describe an adviser as universally approved based on one register search.

The result should establish a sound basis for procuring the defined professional services. It should not be presented as legal, investment or regulatory advice about the underlying business decision, which remains for the appropriately qualified advisers within their agreed remits.
