Interior design onboarding should connect the client's brief to the drawings, selections and decisions needed for a usable fitout. A mood board can establish direction without defining dimensions, responsibilities or procurement readiness. Begin with the existing premises and the intended use, then agree how the consultant will turn those requirements into coordinated information.

## Establish the premises and brief

Record the spaces, users, operational needs and intended project boundary. Identify existing information and what requires a measured survey or specialist confirmation. Mark uncertain dimensions and conditions rather than allowing an attractive concept to imply that every site fact has been verified.

Separate interior planning and finishes from structural, building-services and other specialist responsibilities. Ask the consultant to identify interfaces and the professionals who will address them. A general interior-design appointment should not silently absorb services that require a separate scope, competence or approval route.

## Define the design deliverables

List the expected stages and outputs, such as layouts, finish schedules, details and procurement information. Specify what each stage is intended to support. A presentation drawing and a document ready for contractor pricing serve different purposes, and the client should know when a decision can reasonably rely on each.

Agree the information format and version-control method. Name the client approver for layout, budget and materials. A staff member giving aesthetic feedback should not automatically authorise a cost or scope change. Keep the decision process simple enough that the consultant can obtain timely direction.

## Map procurement and site interfaces

Ask who prepares product specifications, reviews samples and responds to contractor questions. Clarify whether supplier sourcing, tender comparison and site attendance are included. If the consultant recommends an item, identify who checks availability, installation requirements and compatibility before it is ordered.

Discuss the building or landlord information needed for the project. Have the relevant competent team confirm applicable technical and approval requirements. The onboarding record should expose those dependencies without inventing a universal fitout checklist for every UAE premises.

## Start with a reviewed baseline

Use the first brief and survey review to confirm that both parties understand the scope and unresolved conditions. Retain the approved version, budget assumptions and decision dates. A good onboarding record lets the project team distinguish design intent from verified site information and gives each later drawing or selection a clear route to approval.
