A network reference should reveal how an integrator delivered and supported a comparable environment. A customer who purchased hardware alone may not have observed migration planning, carrier escalation or configuration discipline. Establish the reference's actual experience before using its opinion to support a different type of award.

## Match the operating conditions

Ask about the broad project scope, number and type of sites, service boundaries and period of delivery. Determine whether the integrator performed design, installation, migration and support or only one part. Record which technical team was involved and whether it resembles the team proposed for the new work.

Avoid requesting network diagrams, access details or sensitive security information. The procurement enquiry concerns the supplier's process and reliability. A reference can explain the quality of documentation without sharing the documentation itself.

## Explore readiness and cutover

Ask whether the integrator identified dependencies early and kept the carrier, site team and buyer aligned. Did the agreed change window reflect actual readiness? Were unexpected site conditions documented and approved before the installation method changed?

A useful question is what the customer would specify differently for the next project. An answer about unclear carrier ownership or late handover records can become a concrete condition in the new contract without turning the reference call into a general complaint session.

## Ask about a difficult incident

Request an example where the cause was initially uncertain or several parties were involved. Ask who coordinated the investigation, whether updates were useful and how the final resolution was confirmed. Distinguish a temporary workaround from restoration of the agreed service.

For a hypothetical reference reporting repeated brief outages, ask whether the supplier investigated recurrence or simply closed each ticket after recovery. The relevant evidence is how the process improved the network's reliability, not merely how politely support answered.

## Check records and continuing support

Ask whether asset information, topology and configuration records were delivered in a usable form and kept current after changes. Could the customer's authorised team obtain them when the usual engineer was absent? Were support and subscription boundaries clear at renewal?

Summarise direct observations and their limits. Give the shortlisted integrator a fair opportunity to explain material differences in scope or circumstances. Use the reference to select pilot checks and contract requirements rather than treating a positive recommendation as proof that every model, carrier and location will work equally well. The strongest reference evidence changes what the buyer verifies before committing to the rollout.
