An air cargo SLA should measure the forwarder's coordination and actionable communication while distinguishing proposed schedules from confirmed events. The buyer needs to understand cargo readiness, acceptance, movement and delivery as separate stages. A promise of fast transit is not enough to define responsibility when a handoff changes.

## Define the shipment milestones

Agree what constitutes booking confirmation, cargo receipt, acceptance, actual movement and destination delivery for the purchased scope. Ask what evidence supports each status. A general in-transit label should not hide a stage that still requires buyer action.

Identify which updates go to the shipper, buyer approver and receiving team. Sending every message to an unattended mailbox does not establish useful communication.

## Control document and cargo queries

State how the forwarder reports missing or conflicting information and who may approve corrections. Keep airwaybill instructions linked to the active shipment data. Submission should remain distinct from acceptance or clearance by another party.

Where specialist cargo questions arise, identify the qualified decision route. An SLA deadline should not encourage an unsupported classification or incomplete description simply to keep a booking moving.

## Define the response to a changed plan

Use a hypothetical delay in cargo readiness or a revised movement option. Require an update explaining the effect on the remaining handoffs, available decisions and commercial consequences. Record when the forwarder learned of the change and when useful information reached the buyer.

Keep external dependencies visible without allowing the issue to become unowned. The forwarder may not control a carrier decision, but it can still coordinate the relevant information and explain the next authorised action within its scope.

## Close the destination and account loop

Specify delivery evidence and the process for discrepancies. The receiver should know whom to contact if counts, condition observations or documents do not match the expected shipment. Keep specialist acceptance decisions with the responsible product or technical reviewers.

Include final charge queries in closeout so the movement does not disappear from control after arrival. Track recurring document corrections and late decision requests as well as transport timing.

Review significant exceptions individually. A favourable average can conceal one urgent shipment whose origin or destination handoff was not managed. The SLA should produce an understandable account of how the supplier performed its responsibilities, not imply that it guarantees every flight or external approval. Its practical value is making the buyer's next decision clear while enough time remains to act on the air cargo plan.
