Building-material procurement requires evidence tied to the actual product and project requirement. A general certificate or familiar manufacturer name does not establish that every variant is acceptable for the works. The responsible designer, engineer or other qualified reviewer should determine which specifications, approvals and tests apply before purchasing releases the material.

## Identify the exact product and application

Record the manufacturer, product reference, grade, dimensions and intended use. Link the enquiry to the project specification or approved design information. Ask the trader to identify any deviation clearly rather than describe an alternative as equivalent without supporting evidence.

A product may be suitable for one application and inappropriate for another. Purchasing should not infer technical acceptability from the fact that the same material family is commonly sold in the UAE.

## Review the applicable evidence route

Dubai Central Laboratory provides product-certification information for building materials. Have the project's qualified reviewer determine which certification, testing or other evidence is relevant to the specific product and jurisdiction. Do not assume that the existence of a certification scheme means every material has the same mandatory requirement.

Check the product, manufacturer, certificate scope and relevant dates. A report for a different formulation, grade or production source may not support the offered item. Verify through the appropriate issuing or official route where needed.

## Connect documents to delivered material

Ask how the trader identifies batches, production lots or other relevant product information on deliveries. The project team should be able to connect the evidence reviewed during approval to the stock that reaches site. A certificate stored in an email is less useful if nobody can determine which delivered material it concerns.

For example, a replacement shipment from another source may carry the same broad product description but require reassessment. The trader should communicate that change before the material is released for installation.

## Keep acceptance and purchasing decisions distinct

Record technical approval, receiving inspection and commercial receipt separately. Hold unresolved discrepancies under the site's established procedures and obtain the responsible review. A programme deadline or discount should not replace an appropriate decision about the material.

Retain the evidence, reviewer, date and limits of approval. Reassess material changes in product or source. The buying record should support the defined project application, not make a blanket statement that every item supplied by the trader is compliant with all UAE building requirements.
