A handyman compliance check starts with the proposed work, its location and the party contracting for it. Repairing a loose handle is a different undertaking from altering an electrical circuit or opening a concealed building service. Treating both as general maintenance can obscure the need for different competence, approvals and supervision.

## Identify the work and the contracting party

Write a plain description of the task and confirm the building, emirate, customer and proposed payee. Ask the contractor for its registered business details and check the relevant activity through the appropriate official business-verification route. The UAE government links to business-licence enquiry services; the correct route depends on the issuing authority.

Reconcile the company name on the quotation, work order and invoice. An explained relationship between a trading name and legal entity can be recorded. An unexplained discrepancy should remain an open action before payment or site access is approved.

## Separate building rules from business registration

Ask the property owner or building manager which permissions, access arrangements and work restrictions apply to the particular repair. Obtain the current requirements for the site. A contractor's registration does not itself establish permission to drill, isolate a service, enter a restricted area or work outside the building's permitted hours.

For work beyond routine minor repairs, ask the responsible building professional to determine the required specialist and approval route. Do not accept a generic statement that a technician has done similar work elsewhere as a substitute for that assessment.

## Check the people and the method

Confirm the attending personnel, supervision and arrangements for protecting occupants and property. Request the relevant evidence of competence for the task. Where insurance evidence is requested, have the responsible reviewer examine the named entity, dates, activity and material exclusions rather than simply filing the first page.

Consider a request to replace a light fitting. Before treating it as a routine appointment, establish what the job actually involves, who is competent to perform it and what the building requires. A fitting replacement and a change to the underlying installation should not be authorised under an indistinct description.

## Keep unresolved points visible

Use separate evidence fields for identity, activity, site permission, competence and agreed method. Record the source and review date. Avoid a single checkbox labelled compliant, because each check answers a different question.

If the proposed work changes after opening a cabinet, wall or ceiling, pause the affected activity and reassess the scope. The original approval should not silently expand to cover a materially different repair.
