# Verifying ship-agency coverage across UAE ports

Ship-agency coverage should be assessed port by port and role by role. A company may have its own team at one location and rely on a partner elsewhere.

Ship-agency coverage should be assessed port by port and role by role. A company may have its own team at one location and rely on a partner elsewhere. Both arrangements can be workable, but the principal needs to know who receives instructions, coordinates services and produces the final account for the actual appointment.

## Build a port-specific agency map

List the intended ports, call types and services. Ask the agency to identify its office, responsible operator and any local partner for each. Distinguish established arrangements from ports where the company proposes to source support only after nomination.

Request relevant business and port-specific verification routes and have competent reviewers assess requirements. Do not treat a general shipping-services licence or experience at one port as evidence of authority and capability for every activity throughout the UAE.

## Examine partner accountability

Ask how instructions and spending approvals move between the prime agency and local team. Identify who remains accountable to the principal and how conflicting information is resolved. A network logo should not conceal an arrangement in which the buyer must manage several agencies independently.

For example, a local partner may receive a request directly from a call participant. The agency plan should explain how it checks authority and records any cost commitment. The principal should not learn about the request only when the partner's charge appears in the final account.

## Test continuity and reporting

Review shift coverage, after-hours contacts and shared call records. Ask whether the principal receives the same quality of update and voucher evidence at every port. Consistent formatting is useful, but it should preserve real local differences and dependencies rather than hide them.

Seek references for the specific ports and call profiles that matter. A strong reference from the agency's main office may offer little evidence about a distant partner operation. Use a representative initial appointment where capability remains untested.

## Maintain coverage as a current commitment

Record approved ports, roles, partners and limitations. Revisit the map when the operating network changes or new services are added. Review performance by location instead of relying only on a group average. Verified coverage gives the principal a practical view of the agency arrangement it can use, without implying that nationwide branding guarantees local authority, berth access or the performance of every participant in a port call.
