In brief
A cleaning trial should show whether the contractor can deliver the proposed standard under representative site conditions. A specially staffed demonstration in an empty room may reveal finish but not the everyday service model. Define the decision the trial must support, use a bounded area and record the extra conditions that could affect the result.

A specially staffed demonstration in an empty room may reveal finish but not the everyday service model. Define the decision the trial must support, use a bounded area and record the extra conditions that could affect the result.
Select a representative test area
Choose an ordinary area that reflects the surfaces, occupancy and access constraints in the contract. Record its starting condition and distinguish existing damage from removable dirt. Ask the responsible site team to review any uncertain material or specialist task before it enters the trial.
Agree the included work and the acceptance observations. The trial should not become an invitation to perform unreviewed high-access or hazardous work. Use the same scope boundaries that would apply after award so the result supports the actual purchasing decision.
Observe the proposed operating model
Ask the supplier to use the planned supervision and task approach where practical. Note any extra staff, equipment or preparation supplied for the demonstration. Those additions may be reasonable for a trial, but the customer needs to know whether they are included in the routine price.
Test communication as well as cleaning. Introduce a normal coordination issue, such as a room becoming unavailable, through the site contact. Observe whether the contractor records the change and proposes a workable alternative rather than silently omitting the task or disrupting occupants.
Inspect the result with users
Compare the completed area with the agreed standard and ask operational users whether additional work is needed before normal use. Record specific observations by location. Avoid broad judgments such as excellent or poor without examples that explain what passed or failed.
If a defect appears, allow the agreed correction process to run and assess the response. Determine whether the issue reflects an unclear instruction, a suitability problem or execution. These causes lead to different contract changes and should not be hidden inside a single trial score.
Carry the evidence into the award
Summarise the tested conditions, findings and limitations. Retest a material unresolved issue before relying on a promise to fix it later. If selecting the contractor, incorporate the agreed standard, supervision and reporting format into the service schedule. The trial should produce a repeatable requirement and a realistic understanding of the offer, rather than a one-time impression that cannot be reproduced after mobilisation.
