Red flags in UAE financial-services proposals

In brief

Financial-services proposals require clarification when the entity, permitted activity or commercial basis is unclear. A modern interface or familiar group name should not conceal those questions. Treat warning signs as reasons for evidence and qualified review, not as grounds for unsupported accusations about a provider.

A regulated label without an identified scope

Ask which legal entity provides the proposed activity and verify the appropriate official record through the company's review process. Registration as a company is different from authorisation for a particular financial service. A register entry should not be represented as approval of every product or a guarantee of outcomes.

If the provider relies on another institution, request the service map and contract responsibilities. The buyer should not discover the underlying entity only after an exception occurs.

Fees that cannot be reproduced

Request representative calculations using the buyer's actual assumptions. Identify fixed, usage-based and conditional charges, and keep external or variable components explicit. A low headline fee is not a complete cost comparison when important conditions remain undefined.

For a hypothetical quote using a currency-related component, have the appropriate finance reviewers assess the actual calculation and terms. Do not infer a universal rate or future market result from a sales example.

Pressure to bypass ordinary controls

A demonstration or urgent onboarding request should not require shared credentials, unnecessary sensitive records or a live financial action outside the company's approval process. Ask for a test environment or proportionate alternative where it can answer the evaluation question.

If payment or contracting details change, verify them through established channels. Urgency is not evidence that an unfamiliar instruction is legitimate or that the company has authorised it.

Guaranteed outcomes beyond the service

Ask the provider to distinguish its commitments from decisions controlled by other institutions or market conditions. A claim that every application, transaction or financial result is guaranteed needs precise contractual meaning and appropriate professional review.

Consider a hypothetical platform that promises seamless reconciliation but cannot show how reports connect to the buyer's records. Require a concrete test and keep the gap open until it is resolved.

Set a clear evidence requirement and deadline for material issues. If uncertainty remains, limit the scope or choose another arrangement rather than allowing a reassuring sales conversation to substitute for review. The final agreement should preserve the verified entity, service, controls and commercial basis. This framework supports business procurement and does not provide investment advice or a legal conclusion about a specific financial product.
