Warning signs in UAE creative agency proposals

In brief

A creative proposal should make the work easier to understand before it makes the agency look impressive. Warning signs often appear in ambiguous scope, unsupported outcome promises and unclear ownership of the final assets. UAE buyers can use these signals to ask better questions without assuming that every short proposal or small agency is unsuitable.

A portfolio without clear attribution

Be cautious when an agency cannot explain what it contributed to showcased work. The images may represent a previous employer, a partner's production or a project where the agency handled only one element. Ask for the relevant role and the people who performed it.

Also check whether the proposed delivery team has access to the capability shown. A famous campaign in the portfolio is less useful if the agency cannot describe how your account will be staffed. Selection should depend on the team and process available for your assignment.

Deliverables described only as a package

Phrases such as complete branding or unlimited creative support need definitions. Ask which assets, formats, languages and review stages are included. Without those boundaries, the client and agency may both believe they have agreed a reasonable scope while imagining different amounts of work.

Watch for copywriting, production-ready files or language review appearing only in exclusions. An apparently comprehensive fee may cover design of text the client is expected to supply. That can be a valid model, but it needs to be understood before award.

Rights and results treated casually

Question promises that all assets belong to the client without any explanation of third-party imagery, fonts or other licensed components. Ask for a practical description of what transfers and what restrictions remain. Important rights terms should receive appropriate contractual review.

Treat guaranteed commercial outcomes with similar care. Creative work operates alongside the offer, media, sales process and market conditions. Ask what evidence supports a claim and which variables the agency controls. Do not convert an ambitious pitch into a business forecast without a defensible basis.

Pressure to skip approval controls

A request to print or publish before factual and language checks are complete deserves attention. Ask what deadline is driving the pressure and whether a smaller approved release is possible. Urgency does not make an unverified claim or wrong contact detail harmless.

Resolve these questions in writing and assess the quality of the response. A capable agency should be able to clarify scope, explain constraints and propose a workable production route. Persistent vagueness about those basics is more significant than the visual style of the proposal itself.
